“Keep The Apidistra Flying “- Boyace Van Harlan Jr., PhD

One of my favorite novels when I was in college many years ago was a book written by George Orwell entitled “Keep The Apidistra Flying “.  It was first published in 1936. It is a socially critical novel set in 1930’s London. The main theme is George Comstock’s romantic ambition to defy worship of the money-god and the dismal life that results. I first read that book about 35 years ago. I now know why I identified so much with its theme. In the end George succumbs to the pressures and gives in and takes the good job over the high road that may truly be his calling. EconomyBackground_01[1]
