Don’t Complain- Boyace Van Harlan Jr., PhD

imageMy father took the opportunity to make almost every situation in my life as an object lesson. One of his choice admonitions was to never complain. He often said that when you complain you open yourself to more misery. You say to to God I don’t trust you please give more experiences so that I may learn this lesson well.

“See if you can catch yourself complaining, in either speech or thought, about a situation you find yourself in, what other people do or say, your surroundings, your life situation, even the weather. To complain is always nonacceptance of what is. It invariably carries an unconscious negative charge. When you complain, you make yourself into a victim.” Your situation will never change for the better until you can accept what is.
